I'd tried learning Hangul a few times with different resources but none really stuck until this one. With the included audio files, this book has been an amazing help and the extra portion that teaches you about handwriting has proven a lot more helpful than I originally thought it would be. Whether you're someone who can buckle down and get it all in one go or you're like me and like to go through things slowly this book makes it very simple for you.
I'm about two thirds through the book and so far it's going well. The book describes itself as the only book you'll need to learn Hangeul and I think that is true. It's the only "book" you'll need but I still ended up making my own flashcards and downloading a practice app for my phone to practice when I'm on the go. Based on what I've seen so far in this book I think I'll probably purchase the Level 1 books to see how those go as well.
Bought for my daughter who wants to teach herself Korean. Now I have to listen to her all the time. Maybe should deduct a star for that. Lol
I have been following a website called www.talktomeinkorean.com. They just came out with this book on how to become a hangeul Master. I had to get this because I decided to get serious with learning Korean. Reading and writing are the first step to learning this beautiful language. The book was used but it looked new to me. I have added more wear and tear on it since I've had it. I would definitely recommend this book if you are interested in learning Korean. Shipping was super fast!!
I don't believe this would work well for the complete beginner. I've been studying Korean off & on for years, but I still experienced information overload.I also wish the audio had all individual letter sounds (ka, na, da etc) instead of mainly words. I'm having trouble with the basic sounds so it would be better for me if I could hear them individually.I do like TTMIK, but this isn't nearly as understandable as their others.
I had started learning Hangul from various online sources prior to buying this book, but was still confused about a lot of the sounds and how syllable endings worked. This book helped so much! Plus, it gave me an understanding of what handwritten words look like and some vocab to practice. Highly reccommend!
Experts say the most important first step is learning Hangeul/Hangul so I ordered this to start studying while I waited for my Level 1 materials to arrive from Korea. TTMIK is a great company! They offer high quality materials and lots of free content in addition to paid content.Check out their YouTube videos, audio files, lesson books, workbooks, etc.
This is exactly what I was hoping for. I can read Hangul really well, but NOT korean handwriting. I’m looking forward to using this book to help me improve.
