I really like this book, as a Sociology major college student, this book really helps break down social issues and history in concise explanations. I love the info graphics as well as the colors. Well organized, I believe this book can be helpful and applied in any field of life.

We got our son all the books from this line - Sociology, psychology, economics, history, and philosophy. They are great and easy to follow with lots of graphs and pictures. Our son is a freshman in high school and has no problem following the chapters. Great for reference as well!

It's a great introductory book to an interesting form of science and subject, it has a lot of important people, subfields and terminology that you can further research. The ideas are simplified but not over simplified so that it's easier to grasp and later search and explore more about. I also like it's sleek, simple design, with it's side notes/little biographies, pictures and diagrams that come together cohesively.

Phenomenal for those seeking collegiate level principles in a well arranged, chronology of the development of sociology.Excellent gift or coffee table read

I didn't like the way they organize the book; I own some of the book of the series and these is my least favorite. I sometimes got confused because they kept going back and forth. Felt like the book wasn't what I was looking for. Is not as useful in Sociology as is the Psychology one.

Any textbook dealing on a specific subject matter in a easy to read and follow format get 5 stars. As a sociologist and professor, it is really tough getting students to read there textbooks. Many find them boring or 'dry', which I tend to agree with them for some. This book provides great insight into theories, sociologists, and concepts in an easy to follow format. However it could never replace an Introduction to Sociology college textbook because it does not cover everything. It is an overview.

Good book for grasping basic ideas and theories. The format is easy to follow and encourages more in-depth analysis. Very good to have on hand for quick references.

Conspiracies of social control are prevalent on the internet with little peer reviewed sources. This Sociology Book breaks down various theories into a scientific explanation as to why societies behave the way they do. Underneath the propagated surface of American Consumerism lies a dirty underbelly of oppressed minority and even to include the vast majority in various degrees. By recognizing these issues the educated population can come to make informed decisions on social change.Be that as it may depending on social class and ideology your agenda may be opposed by the hierarchy of social and religious ideas. This book is an excellent text that when paired with philosophy, psychology, and economics sheds further light on the rules of the “system” and what power you have to change it.

Architectural GeometryBy Helmut Pottmann, Andreas Asperl, Michael Hofer, Axel Kilian

Geometry lies at the core of the architectural design process. It is omnipresent, from the initial form-finding stages to the actual construction. Modern constructive geometry provides a variety of tools for the efficient design, analysis, and manufacture of complex shapes. This results in new challenges for architecture. However, the architectural application also poses new problems to geometry. Architectural geometry is therefore an entire research area, currently emerging at the border between applied geometry and architecture. This book has been written as a textbook for students of architecture or industrial design. It comprises material at all levels, from the basics of geometric modeling to the cutting edge of research. During the architectural journey through geometry, topics typically reserved for a mathematically well-trained audience are addressed in an easily understandable way. These include central concepts on freeform curves and surfaces, differential geometry, kinematic geometry, mesh processing, digital reconstruction, and optimization of shapes. This book is also intended as a geometry consultant for architects, construction engineers, and industrial designers and as a source of inspiration for scientists interested in applications of geometry processing in architecture and art.

Global Gender Issues in the New Millennium (Dilemmas in World Politics)By Anne Sisson Runyan, V. Spike Peterson

Global Gender Issues in the New Millennium argues that the power of gender works to help keep gender, race, class, sexual, and national divisions in place despite increasing attention to gender issues in the study and practice of world politics. Accessible and student-friendly for both undergraduate and graduate courses, authors Anne Sisson Runyan and V. Spike Peterson analyze gendered divisions of power and resources that contribute to the worldwide crises of representation, violence, and sustainability. They emphasize how hard-won attention to gender equality in world affairs can be co-opted when gender is used to justify or mystify unjust forms of global governance, international security, and global political economy.

In the new and updated fourth edition, Runyan and Peterson examine the challenges of forging transnational solidarities to de-gender world politics, scholarship, and practice through renewed politics for greater representation and redistribution. Yet they see promise in coalitional struggles to re-radicalize feminist world political demands to change the downward conditions of women, men, children, and the planet. Updated to include framing questions at the opening of each chapter, discussion questions and exercises at the end of each chapter, and updated data on gender statistics and policymaking. Chapters One and Two have also been revised to provide more support to readers with less of a background in gender politics. Case studies and web resources are now also provided.

Review
Praise for the Third Edition:

"Once again, this is the place to begin if you are organizing a course on gender and world politics."
—Craig N. Murphy, Wellesley College

"This is exactly the book we all want to introduce students to feminist IR: it's global in its reach, it's down-to-earth in its style, it shows why ideas matter, and it offers students the most up-to-date scholarly findings. Spike Peterson and Anne Runyan are themselves the creators of this whole field, so who better to entice students into thinking new thoughts about this complex world?"
—Cynthia Enloe, Clark University, author of The Curious Feminist

"Global Gender Issues in the New Millennium maps, summarizes and analyzes key insights of feminist work in a way that is thoughtful and challenging for both a general readership as well as for feminist scholarship. It raises important questions through a gender prism that allow us to reflect upon key global issues…This is an important and wide ranging contribution to the debates on international relations, international political economy and security studies."
—Shirin M. Rai, University of Warwick

Global Gender Issues in the New Millennium introduces students to the gendered divisions of world politics today and reveals the power of gender as a meta-lens that keeps gender, race, class, sexual, and national division in place, despite limited advances of some women and men on the world political stage. In this completely new edition, the authors apply intersectional analysis to global governance, militarization, global economic restructuring, and environmental degradation. The authors focus on an apparent contradiction—the higher level of attention to gender and women’s human rights in a time of fierce militarization, economic inequality, and ecological crisis—and address how the power of gender can be deconstructed to rethink gendered identities, ideologies, structures, and policies. The book emphasizes how using gender to justify or mystify unjust global practices can co-opt hard-won attention to gender equality but also sees promise in struggles to re-radicalize feminist world political demands to improve the conditions of all people and the planet. It also examines the challenges of de-gendering world politics through renewed politics of representation and redistribution.
