Concise and comprehensive. I revisit it regularly to remind myself of various aspects to keep in mind for my adolescent with a diagnosis. I suggest setting up a Google Scholar search on your own which will send you new information in the field when it comes out, such as the very recent (2017) data on the genetic basis of schizophrenia.

I am a licensed mental health clinician, and have worked with clients who suffer from schizophrenia, both inpatient and outpatient. This book was recommended by a colleague. Without a doubt the best book I've read on schizophrenia if you're intrested in helping a family member or if you are a professional working in a clinical setting. I highly recommend it. It's quite a bit more technical than I thought it was going to be, given thw title, but that's the part that is useful for either talking to a clinician or being a clinician. I found the book to be quite accurate and agrees with experience in my clinical practice.

I'm now in my late 40s, but as a child I was ashamed to be the daughter of a schizphrenic mother. My family often spoke of her in derogatory terms such as "she's not as sick as she makes herself out to be" or "she is just trying to manipulate to get her way." I knew my mother loved me more than anything, but I didn't understand when she would suddenly blurt out laughing for no reason or tell me something outlandish that "her voices" would say. It was very confusing to love and be loved by someone who was clearly so rejected by society.In my late 20s, someone recommended an earlier edition of this book, and it literally changed my life. I came to have a better understanding of the world my mother lived in. I developed a stronger compassion for her constant struggle to differentiate her experiences from what the rest of the world experienced. She was in the lonliest hell a person could endure, and nobody in her life ever understood until that moment.More than 20 years have passed and mom has too. However, I've met a couple of children who have a schizophrenic father, and they struggle to understand, so I bought this edition to work with them in developing a better feel for how they can have a loving relationship with their parent. After our first session, the teen immediately felt the urge to pick up her cell phone and tell her dad how much she loved him. There is a lot of work involved in learning how to interact with a person inflicted with this horrible illness, but I am certain that there is no better tool for making that happen than learning, and this book is a fabulous tool for accomplishing just that.

I am a clinical supervisor and therapist. I read this book 23 years ago, when I began my career, and it explained to me what exactly my clients/patients were going through, and helped me to understand something (schizophrenia) that is not always articulated in graduate school. I suggest this book to all new therapists and interns, as a guide. I purchased a copy for my workplace so that those new to the mental health field can benefit from it.

This book really helped me with my schizophrenia. It's very difficult to read but is very in depth. It tells me things I didn't know like how coffee is bad for schizophrenia and how 90% smoke. Also had a great mention of delusions regarding famous people being in love with you which I have that symptom. I didn't like his philosophy concerning institutionalization but minus the politics this is not only the best schizophrenia book out there it is also the best book on mental health that I've read.

This book is so informational and on point with everything you need to know about schiz and it's a great book for family and caring friends to read. I highly recommend this book for those with schiz and also family and friends to learn about your illness to hello take care of you and know what your going through. Education is key. A medical view without personal experience. I find them to be depressing and the outcomes to be based on statistics. Don’t read this unless you also read personal stories of hope. Being a victim can be a horrible trap for mental disabilities. Everyone has their own path, don’t get stuck in the narrow medical views.

This book includes so many different subjects. It is very easy to read and it is interesting. This book is very comprehensive and I have really learned a lot from this book. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has someone in their life that has schizophrenia and wants to help them understand the disease. This book is very useful and it has different information than what is commonly found in books about schizophrenia. This book also has a good reference section for subjects contained in the book and what pages they are found on.
